About

Hello, I’m David Wünschel. I’m a freelance journalist based in Landau in the Palatinate region of Germany.

I enjoy telling good stories. Sometimes that means being out and about with a camera and notebook; other times, it means programming and analyzing data. My clients include MDR Data, the SWR Data Lab, Stern, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. I have also been running the travel blog Fernweh nach Welt for many years.

Before becoming a freelance journalist, I worked at the Süddeutsche Zeitung—first as a trainee, then as duty editor at the Visual Desk, and as an editor in the data team. I studied online journalism, development studies, and geography in Darmstadt, Bayreuth, Bordeaux, and Nairobi. Alongside my studies, I worked as a student assistant and freelancer for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and conducted research at the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics in Kenya. I am fluent in English and French.
